I have been creating a world from memory of my own imagination. When I was young, I thought that all of my troubles would go away if I lived outside, on my own, with the animals. From a young age I took comfort in spending time with my stuffed animals, family dogs, and other animals I would meet. I thought that animals had a desirable life. They played, slept, and ate. These are also the desires of a child. But children are often in situations they cannot control; sometimes these situations can be harmful. When I was elementary age I created a special place by the river, under a tree and I pretended to live there. This place, with my dog by my side was my place of peace whenever there was yelling or unease inside my home.
In these photographs, I am expressing what I imagined when I was young. The photos are not about me necessarily, but about children in general and their desire to live in a happy world, exploring as they please. I have sewn animal costumes and have children to model in them. I do not think a human could actually live like animals do, because of our differing natural instincts. The costumes show this idea, they are not realistically representation of any specific animals.
